CRM Saturday – Free CRM Technical & Strategy Event

I really enjoyed CRM Saturday at Microsoft in Paddington, London. Great day and very insightful sessions from all the speakers. Nice to see all the familiar faces again. I have finally met personally those who I have connected only on Linkedin or I have knows only their blogs e.g. Ben Hosking, Marius Agur Pedersen and many others.

It was fantastic well organised event with very informative sessions. I highly recommend CRM Saturday to all CRM professionals. It is a great occasion to see many colleagues from the Dynamics community. See you at the next one!

Comprehensive online guide for Dynamics 365

CRMBOOK published by PowerObjects can be useful for CRM users on different level of experience with this product. It also covers many topics from previous versions of Dynamics CRM e.g. 2011, 2013 to show for example how a navigation was changing to improve user experience.

The content of this book covers topics ranging from the basics to the more advanced questions about CRM administration and extending as well.

The idea with online book is really great,  especially when Dynamics CRM is chaining so often and we experience so many releases, updates,…

PowerObjects decided that they would not bother with print and publish an online book that could be easily maintained – reallygood point.

Differences between MS CRM 2011 & MS CRM 4.0

We usually work on the newest version of Dynamics CRM e.g. Dynamics 365 now. However we still have some clients who use CRM 4.0 . The thing is, some companies didn’t decide to upgrade their CRM system and they still need our support and CRM strategy. We are even surprised how many clients are asking about our help and strategy in upgrading their CRM 4.0 to CRM 2011 or higher.

Recently we were very often asked to highlight the biggest differences / concerns between MS CRM 2011 & 4.0. First of all, there are many differences about syntax/methods between CRM 2011 and CRM 4.0. Please check some of the comparisons on the above image.

However there are more syntax differences between CRM 4 and CRM 2011 at least in:

  • data types
  • plugins
  • workflows

As we promised we try to keep everything simple. However if you need more technical details about it we would recommend you two following articles:

  1. A Summary Syntax Difference between CRM2011 and CRM4.0 made by Ben Hosking. Ben Hosking did a great job and summarised everything in one post.

www.xrmarchitects.com – Innovation and Excellence in Microsoft

I was happy to accept invitation from Simon Jackson to be an associated CRM/AX Solution Architect with XRM Architects.

The website www.xrmarchitects.com went live and shortly team page will go live as well.  XRM Architects specialise and provide bespoke Microsoft Dynamics 365 solutions. Implementing the right CRM solution first time for the client is a priority for XRM Architects. Getting it wrong is very expensive waste of time and resources, isn’t it ?

I follow Simon’ articles on Linkedin, posts and blogs. I think he really does a great job for CRM community. I was impressed his innovative and interactive blog – well done. His blog was also very informative for me last year. Please look yourself as well – https://crm-musings.blogspot.co.uk/

The readers can even switch between custom views for posts e.g. Flipcard, Mosaic, Sidebar, Snapshot, Timeline. My favourite view is Snapshot – https://crm-musings.blogspot.co.uk/?view=snapshot

Last, but not least I highly recommend to read 11 Top Tips for CRM Success from XRM Architects. There you will find 11 top tips to getting CRM system implementation right the first time.

Metadata Document Generator for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011

As everybody knows writing documentation about entities and attributes used in CRM project is very time consuming and bored.

However there is Metadata Document Generator which makes it easier for Dynamics CRM 2011 integrators to generate documentation about entities and attributes metadata.

You can download it using following link: http://metadatadocgenerator.codeplex.com/

PLEASE JUST BE AWARE THIS PROJECT IS DEPRECATED AND WON’T RECEIVE ANY UPDATE ! FOR THAT REASON PLEASE DOWNLOAD XRMTOOLBOX INSTEAD. IT CONTAINS THE METADATA DOCUMENT GENERATOR PLUGIN

Generation Documentation for CRM 4.0

Dynamics CRM 4.0 is the first version of the product which has seen significant takeup in the market and passed the 1 million user mark in July 2009. These days CRM 4.0 is not very popular, but some organisation use it and you can find many supported tools for CRM 4.0 e.g. Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Documentation Generator.

It is an add-in for Microsoft Office Excel 2007/2010 to automatically generate documentation for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0. You can download it from codeplex using following url: https://crm4documentation.codeplex.com/
I have worked on some CRM 4.0 legacy projects and I have to say that it is a great tool for documenting customizations. You can list all Forms, Picklist values and Scripts for entities. It generates an Excel file with all details about your CRM 4.0 organization which is very useful.  When you dowload that tool you can download sample documentation of Forms, Pickiists, Scripts.
